What to do after uni? It’s a good time to teach abroad if…
Do you know what you are going to do after university?
I know you probably feel a lot of pressure to do something. Whether it’s your mom, dad, uncle, grandfather or friend they are probably wondering what you are going to do.
I remember.
And now you may be wondering what is the next step? Do you continue with the career that you have started (your major), start something new or just take a year off?
Right now is a good time to do anything really, but if you are not sure then it’s a good time to experiment. Try something new.
If you want to travel and make money then teaching English abroad is a good option.
Travel and explore while you have the time. If you wait and decide that you are going to try to keep your nose down and just work at some job then well chances are down the road you will want to change and it’s not going to be any easier then.
Travel and teaching abroad are not exactly the same yet they’re neighbors.
When you are teaching abroad you are working and it doesn’t always allow time for vacation, but you’ll be in a new land and you’ll have the time to explore it on the weekends and holidays.
It’s more of an immersion experience. It’s exposure to something entirely different then what you are used to. If you don’t have the time to travel during the year (most contracts are for a year) you can do it after your contract is finished.
For example, if you are in Korea you could take a month off and head to Thailand for some travel and play. And it’s cheap too. You can fly between many Asian countries for $2–300 or so.
Some of the benefits of teaching English abroad are travel, learning a language, trying new foods, saving money and making new friends from other countries around the world.
If…
It’s not for everyone. You have to have an open mind, be adventurous, have some courage and for the best results probably have some interest in teaching.
It’s a whole new experience and if you don’t know what to do after university then I recommend it. Your home, family and friends will always be there, but the chance to explore won’t.
